Thankful in Temecula

Today is a good day to remind myself what I am thankful for, specifically about living in Temecula.  I am thankful for:

  • Great schools and even better teachers
  • Clean air and blue skies
  • Breezy afternoons and ample sunshine
  • Being an easy drive to the big cities, mountains or beaches
  • A large, visible police force
  • A lack of graffiti and violent crime
  • Beautiful neighborhoods and affordable housing
  • An abundance of parks and golf courses

I’m thankful that my kids still say the pledge of allegiance in their school and that I can enter without passing through a metal detector.  I can still talk to my banker without looking through bulletproof glass.  Miles and miles of vineyards turning fall colors right now and crisp sunrises with hot air balloons in the background…

What are you thankful for about where you live?

First Day of School, Temecula 2010/2011

My boys start 4th grade today at Crowne Hill Elementary School the same school that they have attended since kindergarten. There is nothing quite like that first day back…new clothes, new backpacks, new shoes. They had been anticipating seeing all of their friends that they have missed over our (very short) summer break. They were excited and I was excited for them.

We are starting school here very early this year but will complete the year by the end of May as I understand it. There will be teacher furlough days to accommodate our shrinking school budget and we will continue with modified Wednesdays. The school bell is staying the same which will make taking them and picking them up easy to remember at 9:00 and 3:20. Wednesday is a 1:00 pm dismissal except for today where I will cherish these full 6+ hours of peace in my home office!

If you are new to the area you are in for a great experience. The public school system is full of wonderful teachers and challenging academics. Every school is rated highly by Great Schools where you can examine all of the schools in the district for test scores, teacher education, demographics and more. This site is wonderful and can be used nationwide to compare schools. There is also Private School Information.

To keep abreast of what is going on in our district or to find your home school check out the Temecula Valley Unified School District website where all of the local information can be accessed along with school boundary maps and registration packages.

I can’t wait to find out how much fun they had on their first day (and keeping my fingers crossed that they don’t bring homework home already)!
